Cereulide in algal oil and infant formula

Quantification of cereulide in non-rice food material became an inportant issue in 2026 due to a number of recalls of infant formula.

P2712-RT is a follow-up of our PT in 2026 and covers algal oil as well as infant formula.

Two materials are provided:

• a commercially available sample of infant formula with a contamination with cereulide, and
• a sample algal oil, which is spiked with cereulide.

The corresponding unspiked algal oil is offered as blank material upon request.

An LOQ of at least 0.05 µg/kg is required for participation. 

The results are evaluated

• with respect to the trueness criterion (70 to 120 % recovery of the spiked level, algal oil only), and
• with respect to the comparability criterion (|z-score| ≤ 2, both materials).
