Glycoalkaloids in potatoes

The EU CONTAM Panel recommended the monitoring of glycoalkaloids in potato and potato products (Commission Recommendation (EU) 2022/561). 

The following alkaloids and degradation products thereof are recommended for monitoring:

  • α-, β-, and γ-solanine,
  • α-, β-, and γ-chaconine, and
  • solanidine.

Three glycoalkaloids, α-solanine, α-chaconine, and solanidine, are covered by the scope of P2708-RT.

A homogenate of fresh potatoes is provided as test material.
