P2411-RT

Tropane alkaloids in teff flour

The tropane alkaloids hyoscyamine and scopolamine are frequently detected in oil seeds like linseeds as well as in cereals like sorghum or millet (teff).

According to Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/1408 maximum levels of 5 µg/kg are set for the sum of hyoscyamine and scopolamine for milling products of millet, sorghum, and maize.

A sample of a teff flour is provided as test material in P2411-RT. The teff flour contains natural contamination with hyoscyamine and scopolamine.

The results are assessed with respect to the comparability criterion (z-score).

LOQs of 1 µg/kg for each of the two tropane alkaloids are required for participation in P2411-RT.
